On this page we remember members of the IUCN SSC Wild Tulip Specialist Group who are sadly no longer with us. This group is a community of experts who voluntarily contribute to the conservation of wild tulips. It is only with the passion and dedication of our members that we are able to make an impact. We will forever miss those who contributed to the group who are no longer here and we strive to keep their legacy alive through the work that we do.

Diana Everett (Posthumous honorary member)
Diana Everett was a distinguished botanical artist who devoted a number of decades to drawing and painting the many wild tulips of the world. Her deep passion for these plants culminated in the publication of the “The Genus Tulipa: Tulips of the World” monograph that is an essential piece of literature for anyone working on the genus. Driven by curiosity and a spirit of adventure, she travelled widely across the natural range of wild tulips, bringing their diversity and elegance to the many who could not make these journeys. In her passing, we say goodbye to a wonderful artist, friend, and passionate advocate for wild tulips.
Professor Kaiyrkul Shalpykov (Founding member (2024 – 2025))
Professor Kaiyrkul Shalpykov was an esteemed botanist at the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic. His passion for tulips was the driving force behind a major international project aimed at deepening our understanding of Central Asian wild tulips and their conservation status. Through this work, a new species was discovered, taxonomic knowledge was advanced, and the Red Listing of 53 Central Asian wild tulips was carried out. His enthusiasm, kindness, and generosity will be sorely missed. In his passing, we have lost a true hero of Kyrgyz tulip conservation.
